Christ on the Cross
Part 9: Jesus Paid Our Debt

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom…” 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Debt. In considering the word, most people think of their financial debt and their obligations to various debtors. For example, the average twenty-one year-old has five credit cards with an average debt of $3,000, while 23 percent have credit card debt of $3,000 to $7,000, and 10 percent have credit card debt exceeding $7,000.

In the U.S. there are over four credit cards in circulation for every man, woman, and child. Personal debt, excluding mortgages, averages $19,000 per household, over half of which is on credit cards. And, over 40 percent of all U.S. families spend more each year than they earn. Simply, Americans are in financial debt.

What many people are unaware of, however, is their spiritual debt. God made each of us to honor Him by living in obedience to Him. Each time we fail in this obligation through sins of both omission and commission in our words, deeds, and motives, we accrue a spiritual debt to God. This is what Jesus was speaking of when He prayed that God would forgive our debts to Him (Matt. 6:12). Forgiveness of our debts to God requires a mediator, redeemer, and a ransom.

Mediator

The mediator is the person who is the go-between, or “middleman,” between us and God to mediate our differences and bring about resolution. As an example, Job speaks of an angel as a ransoming mediator (Job 33:23-26). To effectively represent both God and man/humankind, the mediator had to be both God and man. Therefore, God became the man Jesus Christ, who alone is the mediator between people and God (1 Tim. 2:5-6; Heb. 9:15; 12:24).

Redeemer

The redeemer is the person who pays the ransom for the debtor. Throughout Scripture, God is spoken of as our Redeemer (Job 19:25; Ps. 19:14; 78:35; Isa. 41:14; 43:14; Jer. 50:34). Throughout church history it has been continually accepted that Jesus is our Redeemer, though there has been widespread debate as to whom Jesus paid our debt.

Origen (185-254) taught that Satan held humanity captive and so Jesus paid off Satan. Gregory the Great (540-604) further developed this concept by saying that Jesus came disguised as a man to trick Satan like a worm on a hook to capture the devil. Anselm (1033-1109) strongly denounced the teachings that Satan has authority over God, God owes Satan, or that God deals with Satan like a deceptive coward instead of a strong warrior. The Bible never states to whom Jesus, our Redeemer, paid our debt. But, it seems logical that since our debt is to God, our debt was paid to God.

Ransom

The ransom is the price that must be paid to God for our debt. The problem, however, is that Scripture plainly says that no human being can redeem the life of another person by paying their ransom to God because only God can accomplish such a feat (Ps. 49:7-15). Because Jesus is both God and man, He alone is able to pay the price for our ransom through His sinless life and substitutionary death (1 Peter 1:18-19). Jesus, as well as other New Testament

* Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

* 1 Tim. 2:5-6 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom…

* Heb. 9:15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Lastly, this ransoming work of Jesus our Mediator and Redeemer means that we belong to God because Jesus has purchased us (1 Cor. 6:20; 7:23). The result is a new life lived by the empowering grace of Jesus through the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit, so that we can enjoy the great honor of living in obedience to God so that He receives glory and we receive joy as we live in congruence with God and His purposes for us.

This inspiring and insightful information came from this link.

My POV: I’m not the most religious person in the world, that’s my friend in CA lol. If you met him, you’d understand. He’s the modern day Ned Flanders. He keeps me grounded and reading the bible. Anyway, I was “researching” a variety of things to include financial debt and I came across this. If you read it, it makes so much sense.

People are so worried about paying off their financial debt (me being one of the many) that they don’t stop to think about the debt that they owe to our lord savior Christ for the sins we commit on a daily basis. That is the biggest debt of all.  Like I said, I’m not the most religious person you could ever meet, I’m just expressing my opinion.

The Past is History Monday, Nov 9 2009

They say that the past is history, but how often does history repeat itself? How often have you made the same mistakes in the past?  Your past is apart of who you are.  Yes, you can change, BUT you can’t change everything about you. America’s history is what makes this country so great and why everybody wants to come here to live. America’s history is apart of America. America can’t shake the mistakes its made,  all they can really do is learn from them and move on.  Same goes for a person, you can’t shake the mistakes you’ve made you have to accept them, learn from them, hope to never make them again and keep it moving.  The mistakes you’ve made help to shape you into the person that you are today.  Which could either be a good or a bad thing. My point is, you can’t erase your past nor can you get away from it.  Sure you can probably erase most of your past that’s on paper (i.e. your records and whatever).  But all the memories, thoughts, actions, & events that matters the most still remain in your mind and in your heart. You can change your appearance all you want, but  you can’t change what’s in your heart.

I believe a person can change, but I also believe that a person can relapse and revert back to their old ways because they’re only human. Perfection in sense that is presented on television is a myth. There’s nobody in the world that perfect. If we as humans were so flawless, there wouldn’t be so much crime and gossip in the news. And really, there wouldn’t be shit to watch of television besides the weather. Because the weather is unpredictable, the meteorologist isn’t always right.  We as human beings were made in God’s eye and that in itself is perfect. To him we are perfect inside and out. Isn’t that enough pressure?

Bad Credit Equals Bad Economy. Thursday, Oct 22 2009

Disclaimer: Don’t read too much in to this, I’m just ranting.  And this is only a theory there is no real truth to this. I was just sitting here watching Transformers 2 on my IPOD and I was thinking about a multitude of things.

In my opinion, bad credit, good credit, and any kind of credit is bad for our country.  If it is bad for the country it is bad for the economy.  The ability to buy on credit was never really a good concept. Yea sure you can defer a payment for 3 to 6 months. Yeah but think of all the interest that stacks up when you don’t make a payment. THINK ABOUT IT. Its like stacking up on debt.  Its an insanely bad idea. Sure you got this sweet new car, computer, camera, washer, dryer, ipod or whatever from not having to make a payment for 6 months or for however long.

Consider this…

HOW MUCH INTEREST YOU PAY WHILE YOU’RE TRYING TO PAY IT OFF. But that is only if you make “MINIMUM” payments which is normally what? 30-50 bucks right? And we make those minimum payments why? Because we don’t have the cash to make big cash payments all the time. So you a lil bit here, and some there…its ok as long you don’t miss a payment you’re fine. Not exactly,  let’s say…hmm idk you bought a computer online from dell and you got approved for their “bill me later” program and you don’t make payments for 3 to 6 months. Your computer costs…$2000 and your minimum payments are like $35 a month. Do the math…interest builds every month where there is a balance on your credit card or whatever.

In a perfect world, this wouldn’t be so bad. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if everybody made their payments on time and didn’t miss payments.  But we miss payments don’t we? We miss payments because we got other shit to pay. Like mortgage, car payments, other credit card payments, rent, light, water, cable, internet, phone and gas bills.  People with good credit these days are hard to find unless you are filthy stinking rich and don’t feel the effects of a fucked up economy. I have good credit, just barely, well it use to be considered as great credit but now its just considered as fair.

That’s why you see all this bullshit about buy on good or bad credit. No background checks. Are you kidding me, you’re going to let people with fucked up ass credit try to buy a hummer? Knowing full damn well that they probably won’t make it past the first payment.  They say no background checks or credit checks, you know they do.

Student loans are the worst, you give a kid, no money, no job a loan?  And then you tell them, oh hey its ok, you can defer it for however many years. No, no, no…

And we wonder why our country is in debt? If you wipeout everybody’s debt.  Then we start a new, hey all those idiots can run out there and spend on good credit and fuck up the economy again. YIPPEE!!

You know what I think, all those million and billionaires should donate some cash. Help your country. So damn quick to run to another country and try to fix their problems. FIX YOUR OWN FUCKING COUNTRY’S PROBLEMS. Give up a couple million to help the economy.  You expect everybody to go out and buy your fucking DVDs, CDs, clothes, magazines, cologne, perfumes and fucking ringtones.  Ringtones… they use to be 99cents tell me why these bitches are 2.99 now? What the fuck is that, I’m not paying 2.99 for a song I can hear on my fucking ipod.

And you wonder why everybody bootlegging and jacking your shit. Because you assholes jacked up the prices. I remember when CDs were 9.99 to 13.99 and cheaper. NOW these bitches 15.99 and up. And I’ll be damn  if I’ll fucking pay $30-$40 for a damn DVD. KISS MY ASS! Blu-Ray can kiss my ass too. Blu-Ray dvd are so fucking expensive. I will never EVER buy a damn blu-ray DVD. We made you and we can break you all the same.  So think about your home country before you run to Africa, Ethiopia and all those other unfortunate countries. We put the majority of the money you make in your pockets. Those foreign countries, they were jacking your shit long before ppl in the USA was. We were slow to figure it out but we did at some point. Take Korea and Japan for instance, they sell bootleg movies 4 to a disc for 5 to 10 bucks.  Now…how does that make you feel??  And your CDS well, in Kyrgyzstan, they sell you can get one artist’s whole discography on one fucking disc for like 3 to 5 bucks.  Now…how does that make you feel?

Subscriptions to My Blog. Wednesday, Oct 21 2009

I was asked the question, how could someone subscribe to me blog.Well, there are at least three ways you can do this.

1. First of all, if you have a blog of your own here at wordpress.com its quite easy for you. Do you see that grey bar at the top there? Where it says: My Account, My Dashboard, New Post and Blog Info? If so, go to Blog Info and Voila! Click subscribe to blog and my blog will appear under your subscriptions when you click on Blog Surfer. Now…if you don’t know what blog surfer is.  Go to your dashboard and look at the column on the left. It’ll say Dashboard among other things, in that list it says…yep..you guessed it, Blog Surfer. Click that and BAM!!!Yup there I’ll be. Man you’re a genius.

2. Secondly, I think its a bit extreme but some people might wanna do this if they’re too lazy to actually go to the site to check. Can you guess what it is? If you guessed Email, you are correct sir/madame. I’ve set this up….today actually. You can now receive an email every time I write a blog. Extreme? Perhaps, but it could be useful/helpful to some. I set up a feedburner account so that you guys could subscribe to that.  On the right hand side there oughta be a like that says subscribe to my feed. Or you can bookmark this: http://feeds.feedburner.com/IAmSpadimusPrime

3. The last way is the old fashioned way. Just bookmark the damn site. lol. Put it in your favorites or if you’re forgetful like me, put it in your toolbar up there instead.

I’m going to go work on the feedburner thing…I may have to update this.

G.I. Joe Vs Transformers 2 Wednesday, Oct 21 2009

How could anybody compare two kick ass movies. Watching these two movies back to back makes for 4 hours more or less well spent. Now throw in…Star Trek and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That makes for four kickass movies to watch back to back. I’m wondering though do they really need to be 2 hours? G.I. Joe and Transformers 2 I get…ok maybe Star Trek  as well, though I highly doubt that Wolverine needed to be 2 hours. But who is complaining, I’m not. Good movies nowadayz are hard to come by. If you’re an avid movie fan like myself, I consider myself to be an avid movie watcher. I can watch movies all day everyday (in between my regular tv shows that is).  Gotta love and hate satellite television sometimes; it’s a gift and a curse. Sometimes there are good movies on and then there are the shitty ones that they throw in there to fuck up the flow. You been home one saturday evening and its cold as fuck or pouring down raining and you just don’t want to go anywhere and you’re flipping through the guide (if you have that luxury) or the tv channels and you find that station that’s playing some of your favorite movies back to back. And then it goes well for 2 maybe 3 movies and then they throw in that one movie that just knocks the whole thing off track, that makes you change the channel and not come back to it even if the movie after is good? I KNOW YOU HAVE, DON’T ACT LIKE I’M THE ONLY ONE!! LOL.  I was trying to make a point, but I forgot where I was going with it (I do believe that I got close to it).

Ok here is a good example of what i mean (no specific order):  The Incredible Hulk (the second one), Iron Man, Transformers (good so far right?) then here comes something like…10,000 B.C. LOL and to continue the line it goes  Hitman or The Transporter. See what I mean? 10,000 B.C. sucked oh so badly. Ok if you haven’t seen 10,000 B.C.. How about something like….The Day the Earth Stood Still (its got Keanu Reeves in it, I think it was his latest movie).  In my opinion, if the world had of ended in that movie it would’ve been a whole lot better.  And if you haven’t seen that, then Elektra or Ultraviolet or Catwoman lol. Nah Catwoman wasn’t that bad. It just wasn’t that great.  I really just couldn’t think of any other shitty movies that would fit right off hand. Course I have a list of movies that I think truly suck so I believe that any one of those would fit that slot.

This may come as a shocker to you (because when I realized it myself; it shocked me) if I had to choose between Tranformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra…I’d pick G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. The story was better, there was always action, action, action. Yeah Transformers 2 had some action parts and some comedy, but some of the parts I was just like WDF?  And I watched Transformers 2 FIRST so don’t go there with me! By no means am I disappointed by either, loved em both. They exceeded my expectations because I worried they both would suck and I’d face four hours of disappointment.  I just thought that G.I. Joe was better, there I said it, aight? Ok next subject…

I’m Not A Writer, I’m A Thinker. Monday, Oct 19 2009

Hold on, before I start this over…AGAIN. I have a story to tell. It took me about an hour to write this shit the first time. I put some real thought, real heart into it. I guess, it wasn’t meant to be posted, the first draft anyways.  I shall not be intimidated by the shittiness (sp? is that even a word?) of the servers here. I’ll prove to you my troubles, because I care about my readers oh so much. I went in search of a solution. I even posted on the WordPress forums check it: MY POST.

I guess it can be considered as a real test of faith and dedication. See how dedicated I am to you guys? I’m willing to make a second attempt at writing this post. Or maybe a rookie mistake, either way, I’m not too sure. Because WordPress supposedly saves a draft automatically when you start writing it. If you like me, you start a post and then stop and sometimes never come back to it. I tend to have a lot of drafts that end up getting deleted because I chose not to post them. But anyways…Now all I have to do is dig deep in my brain to pull out something good.  You know the sequel is never as good as the first or vice versa. So anyways…let’s get it

I don’t consider myself a writer. I do however consider myself a thinker. Whatever I think, I write. So I think, therefore I write. Does that truly make me a writer? I have a lot of thoughts swirling around in my mind and sometimes the only way to get them out is to focus on them and write them out. Hence the reason for my blog. I watch a lot of television and movies. Growing up, as a kid, we didn’t have cable and we rarely got the basic channels (abc, nbc, wset fox, etc)  so we rented videos (back then it was VHS) and video games. Or we went to the movies quite often sometimes 2 or 3 movies a week.  My television habits consists of reality tv shows, fiction and the news. Now you take all that and mix it in together on a daily basis  and with a mind like my own  you’ll come up with some crazy ish.  Hence where all my blog ideas come from to include the stories and poems. I didn’t have the privilege of cable until I was about 14 or 15 years old when we moved from the ghetto to the suburbs (That’s another story in its own making).  I write exactly what I’m thinking verbatim (word for word).  When I speak, I say all the words that are in my mind exactly as they came to me. So if it comes out weird or wrong…hey it makes sense in my mind.

It used to be that I’d say: I don’t write for you, I write for me. Which in its own way is true. I don’t think for you, I think for me (like I said, it makes sense in my mind).  To me, it means this:  I write what I think and my thoughts are my own not yours. I don’t let another person’s opinion of something influence my own. Your two cents isn’t needed here, I got my own, thank you. Whereas you know one person has an opinion of something and they are so adamant about it and they swear up and down its right. They think its right until someone else expresses their own opinion and they think “damn, I was wrong” and they second guess themselves. And you really shouldn’t do that, second guessing yourself leads to self-confidence and self-esteem issues. It makes it harder for you to make decisions. Make a decision and stick to it, no matter what the outcome is.  Even if you’re so damn wrong, stand behind your beliefs.

Damn, I’m so pissed I couldn’t remember all that I said the last post I wrote. In my opinion, it was some good shit. It had a lot of meaning and a lot of nothing in it at the same time. Same as this, I said a lot of nothing but a lot of something as well. It was something because it was something that was on my mind that I felt I wanted to write about.  Perhaps,  another time I will explore this further.

Suggestions for Topics. Sunday, Oct 18 2009

I want to make my blog…readable to everyone. So what I request from my readers is this. What would you like to see me write about? If I don’t know the topic, I’ll fucking research it and then write out some facts and then of course state my opinion. Of course I will still write about me,  shit in my life and whatever else I choose to write about. Because it is MY BLOG.

If you decide to comment, I only ask that you don’t say my name just address me as: Spades, Spadimus, Spadius etc (you pick). We don’t mention real names here. All about privacy and being discreet….kind of  lol. Aight, Deal?

Who Knew Saturday, Oct 17 2009

Who knew?
That love could come so easy
And then leave with the drop of a hat
Leaving you to feel so hurt and alone
It’s like having a constant hangover
And all you want to do is get drunk over and over
Who knew?
That when we embarked upon this journey
And fell so deep in love
That we’d ever dream of saying goodbye
Forever
Without ever saying a word
Who knew?
I didn’t, did you?

For some reason, this didn’t post correctly the first time.  Couldn’t see it at all. When I went to edit it to see what the problem was, it just wasn’t here. The first version of this was much better, I couldn’t remember all the words. I had to write this from scratch AGAIN.

Samsung TL220 Friday, Oct 16 2009

How about a lil story before the main objective? So…I’m sitting there and I’m talking to my dad and hes all like “How’s your paper going? Did you do your paper yet? Is it finished?”  And really what I want to say is: You just asked me the same question 3 different ways. Out of respect, I don’t.  I proceed to say, “No, I haven’t done it and I’m not going to do it.”  Then hes all like “Why not? You better do that paper. You’re the one who said it’s 15% of your grade and that you wanted to get an A in your class.”   What I want to say: “You’re the one who gave me the idea NOT to do it .” (don’t worry I will explain it, if I haven’t already, IDK, I can’t remember) Again out of respect, I don’t. You got to understand how I grew up, you don’t back talk or disrespect your parents. And if you do, you do it in a respectful way so you don’t get a beating. They still look at you like you’re crazy but since you weren’t a smartass about it, they crack a smile and you’re off the hook.  You just got to figure out how to say it without cracking a smile, that’s the hard part. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. These days, kids have no respect for their parents. Parents have no respect for their kids.  But, for me, talking about that subject gets me heated.  And I want to stay in a good mood so maybe another day when I’m already pissed off.

Anyways…back to the original story…(I hate when I get side-tracked, so annoying) I proceed to say “All I got to do to pass the class is get A’s on everything else.  I won’t get an A in the class but I’ll have a high B and I’m ok with that.”  And this smartass goes: “Ok whatever, stop being lazy and rebellious and do the paper so you’ll have an A in every class like you wanted.”  Then I go, “I have made A’s in ALL of my classes but the majority of them. I’ve never made anything lower than a B in any of my classes. So one more B won’t hurt.”  I felt like I was back in HS explaining why there were B’s and not all A’s on my report card (heaven forbid I get a C). He replies “Whatever brainiac you’re the one that’s got to do it not me.”  In my mind, I was waiting for a long lecture about getting good grades can go a long way and how cutting corners makes you a slacker and blah blah blah. But nothing, that was the end of the conversation. He proceeded to go make some chili.

Honestly, the main purpose of this post was to express my obsession with the new Samsung TL220 Dual View Camera. Might I just say this one thing: AWESOME. Its small, slim and and discreet. In short, I WANT ONE….NOW. lol.  In case you don’t know what it looks like I have inserted a picture. I know its a small picture but still if you would like to know more about the camera I will also include a link. Samsung TL220 Dual view Camera My, my, my, what will they come up next.
